Minotaur Shock: This Plane is Going to Fall

Ambient, electronic, delicately put-together, this track by Minotaur Shock from his newest album, Amateur Dramatics, has me in a bit of a trance.

The genre this album is labeled as?
“Laptop Folk”
Okay, that’s just really cool.

Check out his tumblr for more information and live show dates, as well as the webpage for Amateur Dramatics!

Faded Paper Figures: B Film

If the beeps and clicks of Owl City warm your heart, but you’re trying to cut back on the aneurisms that Adam Young’s sappy-sweet, digitized-all-to-hell vocals can often induce, Faded Paper Figures is for you.  I’m particularly fond of the guitar sample used in this song.

Cloud Cult, an enviro-friendly experimental/indie rock/electronica band from Minnesota. Every song of theirs I’ve listened to—even the ones whose lyrics I don’t particularly agree with (don’t ask)—are refreshingly original, which frankly is getting harder and harder to find these days.

This song in particular I think exhibits their somewhat grungy electronic prowess and lyrical sillyness the most. Who doesn’t like their happy hippo?

Confusion Girl by Frankmusik

First, let me apologize that the video is in fact, not really a video. It, however, is my favorite song by Frankmusik, and I wanted to get it to you. Frankmusik is solely comprised of Vincent Frank, a music producer/songwriter who lives in London. He creates a variety of pop and synthesizer music.

He began his career in 2007 and has grown ever since. Frankmusik is kicking off his Live & Lost Tour this month.

Prefuse 73: Yuletide

Prefuse 73, one of Guillermo Herren’s several stage names, will be releasing his new album, Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian in the coming months. I thought I’d dig around and find some goodies to tide you over. Prefuse 73’s music can be most accurately described as hip hop minus vocals, though, as Yuletide shows, that in no way limits the interestingness and musicality of his songs.

She And Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?

She And Him is an unlikely collaboration between actress Zoey Deschanel (from the movies Elf, The Happening, and The Go-Getter) and instrumentalist M. Ward. The two met on the set of a movie in which Deschanel had a starring role, and were recruited to sing a duet for the end credits. When Ward discovered that Deschanel had a talent for writing music, he requested some of her demos. She agreed, and She And Him was born. The two originally began writing through email, with Deschanel sending Ward rough versions of songs to be touched up. The end product of this was their 2008 release, Volume One. The songs are light, poppy, and have just a little hint of vintage jazz. They are currently working on a proposed Volume Two. As a side note, Zoey Deschanel became engaged to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie in December 2008.
